Standing before the canvas creates a quiet space in which I can meditate on emotions, colors, and concepts.  I begin each painting without a sense of where the work is going.  As my various moods, thoughts, and experiences play out day to day, every shift creates new directions and options for the painting so that the work is constantly evolving.  Each day I get to grapple with these options and solve the problems from the previous day.  The final choice is when it is finished.
Through this process, I explore how we make choices, experience emotion, and live in uncertainty.  Each painting is highly auto-biographical in that it is an abstracted map of my internal or external experiences.  While each painting is a very specific meditation for me as an artist, my wish is that it would become an invitation to the viewer to begin his or her own process and exploration.
